CONTEXT

Roxane de la Sablonnière has always been interested in major social changes. Her career is marked by the ambition to understand phenomena that disturb the functioning of societies and individuals. This quest has taken her to the four corners of the globe, including Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, South Africa and Canada's Aboriginal communities, where she has been in direct contact with the individual dramas resulting from collective upheavals.

According to some political leaders, the COVID-19 pandemic represents the greatest challenge facing humanity since the Second World War. It is therefore a subject of choice for the study of social change and for the Laboratory on Social Change and Identity, which de la Sablonnière has been leading for more than 15 years.

Our challenge is to target the fundamental social issues of the current pandemic with data. Over the long term, we hope to identify resources that will allow us to respond to these challenges in an informed manner and, most importantly, ensure sound preparation for future crises. In this quest, Roxane de la Sablonnière has surrounded herself with a team of researchers and students who, like her, believe that ideas are what change the world.

This project is financed by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
